The American Legion Post 26 crew will head to the district tournament in Casper this weekend as the top seed from the Northwest conference.

“It's nice to have the bats hot,” said Pioneer coach Mike Jameson after his squad averaged 14 runs per contest last week. “Hopefully we can keep that up and put runs on the board and support our guys on the mound with some nice totals.”

The Pioneers began the week with a 13-0, 14-12 sweep in Cody. The victories placed the final pieces into an undefeated conference campaign for the Pioneers, who finished a perfect 10-0 against league foes.

Powell exploded for five home runs in the first contest, including a two-homer performance by winning pitcher Scotty Jameson. Gianluca Giarrizzo, Josh Cragoe and Andrew Young all took the ball over the fence as well in the shutout victory.

Both Jameson and Giarrizzo finished the opener with four RBIs.

On the mound, Jameson allowed just three hits and three walks to Cody batters, fanning six on the evening.

“Their pitcher was throwing a lot of breaking balls and we did a good job of sitting back, waiting on the ball and then driving it,” said Mike Jameson.

Powell rolled up the runs in the nightcap as well, jumping to a 14-6 lead before enduring a bit of a Cody rally.

“We got out to an early lead and lost a little focus,” said Jameson. “We didn't do the things we needed to in order to finish it out.”

Dallas Robirds went 3-for-4 with three runs scored at the plate. Giarrizzo added a 3-for-5 performance while Young smacked Powell's sixth home run of the evening in the contest.

Grant Geiser picked up the win on the mound while Tyler Dahlgren came on in relief to record the save.

On Saturday, Powell played its final home games of the year, scoring wins of 11-1 and 18-4 over the Sheridan Jets.

Giarrizzo connected for a home run in the opener, taking a ball off the top of the left field fence. For the game, Giarrizzo went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored. Scotty Jameson added a pair of triples as part of a 2-for-3 performance.

Colt Nix picked up the victory in game one. Nix threw all five innings and finished with five strikeouts in the victory.

In the late game, Powell scrambled its lineup, but still rolled to an 18-4 victory behind a nine-strikeout performance by starting pitcher Jake Beuster.

Jameson sent another ball over the fence as the Pioneers' season-leading home run hitter clubbed in four RBIs as part of a 2-for-2 batting performance. Dallas Robirds added a 3-for-4 day at the plate with three runs and four RBIs.
