Before he was drafted by Washington, former star NFL tight end Chris Cooley may have been headed for a career as an art teacher, his wife Madi said.
The art bug never left, and the couple at one point even owned an art studio before moving to Powell.
The organization Northwest Wyoming Realtors 4 Kids, of which Madi is a board member, is putting on a canvas and cork fundraiser this weekend in Powell to raise money for the group.
Painting Heart Mountain will be taught by Chris who, Madi said, is still good with a canvas.
The event will be at the Powell American Legion and attendees have two sessions to choose from, either 3-5 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. Cost is $45 per person and there will be a cash bar and light appetizers provided.
“It’s just a fun event that we can all attend, having fun with yourselves, each other, raising money for a good cause, I don’t think there’s anything better than that,” Madi said.
Northwest Wyoming Realtors 4 Kids aims to help children who are victims of abuse or neglect, have ongoing or temporary medical needs, or who need financial assistance to participate in school or community programs. The group partners with organizations to help provide resources for youth in Park and Big Horn counties, and also hosts events for kids and the community, such as the annual carnival and backpack giveaway events. Last year the organization combined the two events at Washington Park, and Madi said the turnout was even better than it had been.
“We like the community,” she said. “We all live here.”
The organization does a lot with referrals, so if anybody knows of somebody in need, they can go to the website and fill out a referral form. The members then look at those as a committee and figure out how best to help.
To sign up for the event, go to the Realtors 4 Kids Facebook page or nwwyrealtors4kids.org. Sign up by Friday.
