Hockey team dominates crossover gamesThe Yellowstone Quake made waves against its Pacific Division counterparts, sweeping a trio of games in Billings last weekend. The games were part of the NORPAC's crossover weekend, bringing together members of the America West and Pacific divisions. Saturday's 8-1 victory over Pacific Division co-leader Eugene was by far the team's most impressive win. The Quake out-shot the Oregon-based Generals by a wide 79-29 margin to decisively hand Eugene just its fifth loss of the winter. Alex Odea finished with two goals and two assists as the Quake dominated from the opening face-off. After scoring a pair of goals in the first period, Yellowstone blew the contest wide open with four goals in the second period. The Quake kept Eugene off the scoreboard until after the midway point of the third period to easily claim the win. The victory over the Generals was the perfect cap to a stellar three-day performance. The Quake began the crossover weekend with a 5-1 win over Tri-City (Wash.) on Thursday morning and sandwiched an 11-3 blowout of Rogue Valley (Ore.) into Friday afternoon. Matthew Tackett scored the go-ahead goal in the second period against Tri-City, breaking a 1-1 tie. America West Division assist-leader Kory Sosnowski assisted on a pair of goals as the Quake lit the lamp three times in the third period to pull away with the win. The Quake followed a similar script against Rogue Valley. After the two teams skated to a 2-2 draw over the first 20 minutes, the Wyoming skaters took command of the situation. Team scoring leader Chris Rinaldi scored a pair of goals while Patrick Ryan contribued a third-period hat trick as the Quake tallied nine goals over the final 40 minutes. The Quake enjoyed a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal while striking for six third-period scores. The Pacific Division trifecta elevates the Quake's record to 23-10 overall this season. Despite the team's performance, which saw it out-shoot its opponents 192-76 while in Billings, the Quake remains in third place in the America West division, two games behind Missoula in the standings. The Quake has the opportunity to chop into the margin this Friday as the Missoula Maulers visit Riley Arena for a 7:30 p.m. Friday night contest. The team will also travel to America West leader Helena on Saturday before returning home for a rare 4 p.m. Sunday contest against Butte.
