Two other passengers, Erik Rodriguez, 18, and Luke Sherley, 16, were seriously injured in the crash. All four occupants are from Powell.

According to a report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when Farwell, who was traveling northbound on Wyo. 295 four miles north of Powell at a high rate of speed, crossed the center line. He steered to the right then over-corrected to the left, causing the vehicle to go into a broadside slide.

The vehicle left the west side of the road and collided with a large tree. The impact was on the passenger's side at the back of the front seat.

Bapst, who was seated in the front passenger's seat, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Rodriguez and Sherley were seated in the back. None of the vehicle's occupants were wearing seat belts.

Powell fire and emergency personnel responded shortly before 8 p.m. and worked for more than an hour to extricate the victims. Extrication required cutting down the tree and removing the roof from the vehicle.

The three surviving victims were transported to Powell Valley Hospital. Rodriguez and Sherley were life-flighted to St. Vincent's Healthcare in Billings with serious injuries.

An Associated Press report issued Monday morning that another of the passengers had died as a result of the crash was retracted later in the day.
