The Powell Senior Center fed 266 local residents Thanksgiving meals last Friday, thanks in part to a $500 donation from the Wyoming Hunger Initiative and the Wyoming Governor’s Residence Foundation.
Center staff delivered turkey and the fixings to homes, to those on Medicaid waiver, residents at the Rocky Mountain Manor dining room and in the senior center dining room, where long tables were packed with seniors sitting to eat and chat.
Powell Senior Center director Linda Dalton said it was important because for many, this was the only Thanksgiving meal of the year.
The Wyoming Hunger Initiative understands the challenges that community members face with the increased costs and inflation of everyday living and wants to make sure that no person goes without food in Wyoming. First Lady Jennie Gordon launched Project Thankful Wyoming, which will provide donations to all 23 counties in Wyoming this Thanksgiving season.
