Powell Piranhas wrap up winter season in Laramie

Despite difficult weather conditions and a long trip to Laramie, 11 athletes competed for the Powell Piranhas at the Wyoming Winter Short Course Championships in February. The Powell swimmers finished 13th as a team in the 21 team field while racking up more than two dozen personal best times.

Powell was led by 18-year-old Rui Parker, who earned the highest individual finish for the Piranhas — taking third in the 100 back (with a time of 56.8 seconds). Parker also earned another top six placement in the 100 fly (56 seconds).

Patricia Christensen (14) paced the Piranhas in points, placing fourth in the 200 free (2:15.26), while also taking sixth in the 200 back (2:24.08), 100 back (1:04.99) and the 200 IM (2:33.28).

Danaya Preator (7) earned a sixth-place finish in the 50 free (43.51) and Kaitlin Diver (15) took sixth in the 1,000 free (12:58.15).

Meanwhile, the girls’ relay teams of Christensen, Kinley Cooley, Charlee Brence and Diver claimed fourth in the 400 free relay (4:16.47) and fifth in the 400 medley relay (4:48.68).

On the boys’ side, the relay teams composed of Parker, Kobus Diver, Trystan Preator and Nathan Dupont placed sixth in both the 400 medley relay (4:12.86) and the 400 free relay (3:47.17).

Overall, the Piranhas had 22 top 10 finishes in the competition. The team will now work towards competing in summer meets, which will begin in June.
