Borcher beat out a field of 70 to win the shot title ahead of teammate Ryan Brandt. The pair helped key a fourth-place finish by the Panthers, despite the absence of several of the team's members at the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper the same day.

Borcher's throw of nearly 133 feet was enough to win the discus portion of the competition. His throw of 44'10.25” was four inches better than Brandt as the pair finished one-two in that event.

“Casey winning two events was great for him,” said Powell High School track coach Scott Smith. “He's a very hard-working kid and it was great to see him have a breakout day.”

A total of 18 boys' teams and 19 girls' teams took part in the Thermopolis meet.

Josh Cragoe added good points for Powell with a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Cragoe finished in a time of 16.54 seconds in the event.

On the girls' side, Kassey MacDonald ran to a second-place finish in the 800 in a time of just over 2:42.

“Kassey ran a great race by herself in her first open 800,” said Smith.

The Panthers' track coach also singled out the effort of Jose Garcia, who recorded personal records in three events at the Thermopolis meet.

“Our regional squad is really taking shape,” said Smith. “There are still a couple of close calls that will be decided this Friday in Cody, but both boys and girls teams are starting to come together very nicely.”

The Panthers compete in the Greybull Relays on Tuesday before heading to Cody on Friday. Friday's Cody meet takes the place of the Gillette invitational that originally appeared on the Panthers' schedule.
