Panthers wrap up spring season in Lander

The Powell Panther golf team wrapped up its spring season with a cooler, breezy day for the final round of the campaign Friday in Lander.

Due to family plans and illness, the Panthers were unable to field five players and only three athletes were able to make the trip for the final round of the season.

Leading the way for Powell was Jackson Hill.

“Jackson continued his solid, consistent play with an 83,” coach Troy Hildebrand said. “He has made leaps and bounds as a player in his first two years and I see him as a very important piece for us next fall if he is able to put in a strong summer.”

Second for the Panthers was Trey Scott, who finished with a 90.

Hildebrand said that Scott has put in tons of time on the course, continues to figure things out, and expects him to continue improving into next season as a returning All-Conference player.

Rounding out the team was Andrew Jones, finishing with a 93.

“Andrew had a bad three hole stretch in Lander but his front nine of 41 was one of the best of his career,” Hildebrand said. “He is hitting the ball as well as he ever has and is gaining confidence each week. If he is able to put in the time at the course this summer he could easily be a player that is in the low 80’s consistently for us.”

Hildebrand said he is happy with the growth the team showed this spring and feels the team could have a strong season in the fall.

“With the experience that we have coming back next fall along with a couple of younger players coming up, I really like the team that we will have for our competitive season with both conference and state in September,” Hildebrand said.
