The color scheme will be a bit different at the Powell High School gym Friday night when the Panthers and Lady Panthers square off with Worland on the basketball court.
Normally it would be a battle of orange and black teams, but this week, the Powell teams will exchange their normal uniforms for pink for Hoops for Hope, a campaign to raise money to support Women’s Wellness and the fight against breast cancer.
In recognition of the campaign, the Panthers will play the first game at 5:45 p.m. with the Lady Panthers game taking over prime-time at 7:30 p.m.
In between games, a number of items will be auctioned, including a jersey autographed by Washington Redskin Chris Cooley and a football autographed by Todd Heap of the Baltimore Ravens. Among other items on sale will be a wood carving by Christy Muecke, a framed photograph offered by Jensen Photo and tickets to the University of Wyoming’s football game against Weber State University next fall.
The Powell Roundtable will conduct its usual drawing for an autographed ball, but this week the ball will be pink.
Spectators are encouraged to wear pink and black, and appropriately colored T-shirts will be on sale. In addition, a number of booths promoting wellness will be located in the PHS Commons.
Powell High School students have been raising funds as well, and will conclude the week with a dance following the games.
The last Hoops for Hope in Powell was played in 2009, and raised nearly $20,000 for the cause.
