Northwest College celebrated 16 nursing school graduates with a traditional pinning ceremony on the afternoon of Dec. 16 in front of family, friends and faculty.
“This will tell the world that they’re prepared to serve others,” NWC President Lisa Watson said. “You will walk away taking an oath to serve others and that takes a special person to upheld that oath, but I know you all are special people.”
The ceremony was started by the groundbreaking English nurse Florence Nightingale as a way to honor graduates of her nursing school.
Guest speaker and professor Rebecca Phillips said the 16 graduates of the two-year school were the best crop yet, something she said she thinks of each year’s graduates.
“You guys are going to become the nurses people look up to and students want to become,” she said.
Two students were also honored, including Laura Yeoman as the Outstanding Student, while Madelyn Harmel received the Clinical Excellence award.
