As Trapper athletics return to Cabre Gym, fans will be on hand.

Just ahead of the Trapper wrestling team’s home Apodaca Duals, Northwest College Interim President Lisa Watson approved a plan that allows spectators to attend athletic competitions hosted on campus.

Following the State of Wyoming’s current public health orders, the Trappers will permit up to 223 spectators at each event during the spring semester. Local health officials have predicted that the state’s restrictions on gathering will be relaxed in the coming weeks, but from now through Feb. 14, the state is limiting indoor venues to 250 spectators or 25% of capacity, whichever is less.

Per NWC athletic director Brian Erickson, the Cabre Gym will open 30 minutes prior to start time of each event. Patrons will be allowed into venues on a first-come, first-served basis until the 223-person capacity has been reached.

In the midst of an unconventional time in the sports world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is thrilling for Erickson and Trapper athletics to welcome in spectators.

“Thank you for your continued support,” Erickson said. “We’re looking forward to welcoming Trapper fans back to the stands.”

NWC wrestling kicked off the home slate for Trapper athletic events last weekend, hosting the Apodaca Duals on Saturday. And Trapper volleyball faced Rocky Mountain College’s JV team Wednesday in front of a home crowd at Cabre Gym.
