In less than a week Powell students will be welcomed by some new faces.
The following staff have joined Park County School District 1 for the 2023-2024 school year:
Heather Allred
Family and consumer science teacher at Powell Middle School
Heather Allred previously served as a paraeducator at PCSD1 and clerk at Basin Law Group for seven years. In May 2023 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Chadron State College.
Alyssa Bell
Biology and physical sciences teacher at Powell High School
Alyssa Bell has two and a half years of experience as a science teacher. She taught one semester of middle school science in Malta, Montana and then taught middle school for two years at Greybull Middle School.
Bell has earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and another in science education from Arkansas Tech University.
Chelsea Brakke
Special education teacher at Powell High School
Chelsea Brakke is a Powell High School graduate. She worked as a counseling office secretary at Powell High School for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Brakke earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from the University of Wyoming and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in special education from Western Governors University and will graduate in May 2024.
Jenna Carter
Guidance counselor at Powell High School
Jenna Carter has worked in the mental health field since 2014 in private practice, juvenile detention centers and as an in-home family therapist. Carter has a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from the University of Wyoming as well as a master’s degree in community mental health counseling. She is a licensed professional counselor in Wyoming and Tennessee.
Nikkole Catlin
Third grade teacher at Westside Elementary School
Nikkole Catlin is a Powell High School graduate and previously taught fifth grade for three years in Saratoga. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree in learning and technology through Western Governors University.
Benjamin Curdy
Agriculture teacher at Powell High School
Benjamin Curdy previously served as the agriculture teacher for eight years in the Kenmare, North Dakota school district. Curdy has a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University.
Sunshine Dunkerley
Special education teacher at PCSD1
Sunshine Dunkerley has worked 17 years in education and spent the last 12 years in the Title 1 department. For the last 11 years she has worked in the Title 1 department at Westside Elementary School.
Dunkerley has a bachelor’s in wildlife biology from North Carolina State University and is in the process of earning a master’s in special education from Western Governors University.
Anna Flitner
Psychologist at PCSD1
Anna Flitner has provided assessment and therapy services for youth in schools, community mental health centers and juvenile detention centers. She has a bachelor’s from Carleton College and a master’s and doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
Katelyn Hall
Fifth grade teacher at Westside Elementary School
Katelyn Hall earned her bachelor’s in education from Montana State University-Billings in May and will be starting her education career in Powell. While in school Hall was given the “College Education Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student.”
Sabra Hoffman
School nurse at PCSD1
Sabra Hoffman has three years of experience as a school nurse and nine years of clinic nursing experience. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wyoming as well as a bachelor’s in nursing.
Connor Jones
Spanish teacher at Powell Middle School
Connor Jones has three years of experience in education. Jones taught English at Skyline High School in Idaho Falls for two years and taught both English and Spanish at Cody High School during the 2022-2023 academic year.
Jones has a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho and he is working on earning his master’s degree through Western Governors University.
Laurie Klemm
Title 1 teacher at Westside Elementary School
Laurie Klemm has worked in education for 12 years in Colorado, Kansas and Powell where she was a Title 1 paraeducator at Westside and Southside elementary schools. Klemm is a Northwest College graduate and earned her bachelor’s of elementary education at the University of Wyoming.
Ty Meyers
Industrial arts teacher at Powell High School
Ty Meyers has worked in education for 23 years, all in Wyoming. He last taught in Meeteetse. Myers does not have a formal education degree but teaches under a practical instructor certificate through the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.
Susan Nelson
Special education teacher at Powell High School
Susan Nelson has worked as an educator since 2009 in a variety of roles including as a high school paraeducator, a kindergarten teacher and a K-2 resource teacher. Most recently Nelson worked at the Shoshone Learning Center.
Nelson has a bachelor’s degree from Grand Canyon University in elementary education and K-12 special education.
Rachel Nielsen
Social worker at PCSD1
Rachel Nielsen has worked two years in Cody schools as a district mental health counselor and worked in community health prior to that.
Nielsen has a bachelor’s and master’s in social work from the University of Wyoming and is also a licensed clinical social worker.
Aubrie Stenerson
Physical education teacher at Parkside Elementary School
Aubrie Stenerson is a Powell High School graduate and a first year teacher. She student taught physical education at Natrona County High School and Manor Heights Elementary during the 2023 school year.
Stenerson earned a bachelor’s degree in K-12 physical education/health education and adaptive physical education from the University of Wyoming.
Brooklyn Sweet
Classic kindergarten teacher
Brooklyn Sweet is a Powell High School graduate. She previously taught kindergarten and first grade in Worland and is continuing professional development in reading recovery.
Sweet has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Wyoming. She is also a certified early literacy teacher through Saint Mary’s College of California.
Hartly Washington
Special education teacher at Powell Middle School
Hartly Washington is a Powell High School graduate and a first year teacher. In spring 2023 Washington completed student teaching at Spearfish and Lead-Deadwood school districts in South Dakota.
Washington has an associate’s degree in education from Northwest College and a bachelor’s degree in education from Black Hills State University with a major in K-12 special education.
Beth Whitley
Special education teacher at Westside Elementary School
Beth Whitley previously worked in youth residential treatment, as a secondary school paraeducator and a special education paraeducator at Westside Elementary School during the 2022-2023 academic year.
Whitley has a bachelor’s of science in human development and family studies from Colorado State University. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in special education.
Tiffani Zickefoose
Kindergarten and first grade teacher at Clark Elementary School
Tiffani Zickefoose has had her substitute license since 2017 and served as the “firefighter substitute” in PCSD1’s special education department for the last two years. Zickefoose earned her education degree through Western Governors University.
