At a time when the nation's leaders are clashing over health-care reform, Powell has found a way to provide quality medical care for those who can't afford it.For those lacking health insurance, Heart Mountain Volunteer Medical Clinic has been a godsend since it opened in Powell last July. Those shuffling through the clinic's doors encounter compassionate volunteers who strive to make them feel better and who truly care about their wellbeing. The volunteer clinic has worked in Powell. And now it's beginning in Cody.Leaders in the northern Big Horn Basin's medical community are joining forces to duplicate Powell's clinic in Cody. Powell's Dr. Nick and Madelyn Morris, along with Cody's Dr. Steve Mainini and dozens of others in both communities, are working to open a sister clinic in early 2010.We applaud their efforts to bring health care to those lacking resources and wish them well as plans for a second clinic move forward. While it's true that Powell and Cody are well-acquainted rivals, a Cody clinic will foster the concept Heart Mountain Volunteer Medical Clinic is based upon: Neighbors caring for neighbors.
