(Dec. 27, 2000)
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody for N. Glenn Fales, 81, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27 at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
Mr. Fales was born April 16, 1919, in Deaver. He was raised in Garland until he was 16 and attended school there until he quit after his junior year to learn the life of a cowboy. He was working cattle at the Hoodoo Ranch when he met Alice Shultz, and they were married Feb. 17, 1941, in Cody.
Glenn and Alice Fales had two children. Carolyn Rae was born in 1942 while they were at the Pallet Two Ranch, and Gary was born in 1944 when the family lived on Sage Creek.
They operated Fales Grocery in Meeteetse in the 1940s and early 1950s until they traded the store to Howard Dawson of Powell for the Rimrock Ranch on the North Fork. The dream of owning a ranch was thus realized, and the Fales met the challenge head-on. They also acquired hunting camps in the Thorofare and Boulder Basin that are still in the family today.
Mr. Fales was active in helping start the Wyoming Outfitters Association. In 1998, he was inducted into the Outfitter Hall of Fame in Dillon, Mont.
His big love in life were his horses and the mountains, He passed on this love to many of "his boys," as he called the young men who came to work for him.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Alice; daughter Carolyn and Colin Taylor of Casper; son Gary and Dede Fales of Wapiti; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers Merle and Vern Fales; sisters Blanch Burns and Irma Yountz; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Davis; a brother, Lloyd Fales; and granddaughter, Gilly Fales.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. The family requested that any memorial contributions be sent to the special care unit at the West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
