Number of Panthers competing for Cody Broncs
Indoor track season opens Jan. 14 and, similar to past years, a number of Powell High School athletes will take advantage of a cooperative agreement to compete as part of the Cody High School team. Defending state indoor high jump champion and two-time 3A outdoor high jump champ Kyle Sullivan headlines the sizeable group.
According to Panther track coach Scott Smith, Zach Thiel, Cameron Bennett, Desiree Murray and Brooke Nisely all fall into that group. Also joining the team are Karly Thomas, a senior transfer student from Greybull, and Dillon Nix.
Additional students will work out with the team periodically, but are not planning to compete at this time.
The squad opens the year at Spearfish, S.D., on Jan. 14. They’ll make their first appearance in the state of Wyoming, helping to break in a new facility in Gillette on Jan. 22, before heading to Laramie on Feb. 4.
A handful of participants will head to Pocatello, Idaho, on Feb. 17-19 to take part in the Simplot Games. The nationally-renowned event brings together some of the top track talent from throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Plains.
The team returns to Gillette for the state championships, March 4-5.
