Healing together

Now, the healing begins

A funeral date is set for the celebration of a 33-year-old life taken too soon. Taken too soon from his wife and infant daughter. Taken from a family who saw their son battle an overseas war in Afghanistan and return, with scars, but returned full-bodied and ready for more service to a new community. Taken from a team of men and women serving the same purpose as him each day to protect the Sheridan community.

Everyone mourns and heals in different ways, and the community of Sheridan — as has been shared by many in meetings, gatherings, press releases, publicly and privately — has come together in true Sheridan fashion. Food, flowers and funds abounding for everyone impacted by the loss, with an emphasis on Sgt. Nevada Krinkee’s family, friends and team.

Keep doing it, Sheridan.

Keep doing what you always do in times of great loss and strife. There isn’t a community known by The Sheridan Press staff that comes together like Sheridan County folks do. The camaraderie extends beyond political opinions, public spats or private beliefs. Every individual in this community was touched by tragedy this week, and it seems every individual is striving to provide support for one another. A text, a hug, a meal, a donation — just a complete outpouring from all avenues.

As we move past the immediate and into the long road of recovery ahead, seek out the ways in which you find healing. Accept the help offered when you need it. Send the text to the friend you’ve been thinking about and praying for all week. Listen to each other as we process in different ways. Keep showing up for one another, and don’t take for granted the community in which you live — the same community Nevada went to work every day to protect.

Sheridan, let’s continue healing together.
