It will be close, but not inside Crown Hill Cemetery this year.
But the second annual Jim Beavers Memorial Graveyard Gallop run/walk, sponsored by Homesteader Museum, will take place. It is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28.
The Crown Hill Cemetery District board previously declined to allow the event in the cemetery itself, questioning whether the fun run is a respectful event for the cemetery grounds.
The run/walk honors the memory of Jim Beavers, a former member of both the museum board and cemetery district board who died in 2021.
Michela Morrissey, a member of the museum board, is setting the course for the races — a 1-mile walk, a 5K and a 10K run/walk. She said the start and finish of the races will be at Rocky Mountain Blasting and Coating, 699 Lane 9 (the Cemetery Road). All walks and races will go past the cemetery on Lane 9. The event starts at 9:30 a.m.
Registration is open online at Runsignup.com, or interested participants can stop by Homesteader Museum to fill out a paper form.
Costumes will be welcome, said Brandi Wright, museum director.
