George Ralph Berchtold


(Feb. 1, 1928 – April 11, 2011)

George Berchtold, 83, died peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Ronda Berchtold Schneider, after being diagnosed with cancer.

He was born in Redmond, Ore., and enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. After an honorable discharge, George spent 12 years in San Diego as an aircraft welder.

After moving to Powell, he started and operated various businesses, along with farming and feedlot.

He loved all his dear friends and especially loved teaching them to fish. George spent all his free time fishing on the North Fork of the Shoshone River.

He is survived by his four children, Robert (Jodie) Berchtold of Powell, Reta (Ben) Jones of Virginia, Ronda (George) Schneider of Spring Creek, Nev., Renee (Neal) Doyle of New Mexico; and numerous grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on a later date in Powell.
