The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is proposing changes in fishing regulations for 2010-11 during a meeting at Big Horn Federal Savings Bank in Cody today (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. Winter ice fishing and the use of bait fish will top the list of topics at the meeting. Also on the agenda are proposed changes for water craft, fur-bearing trapping and license issuance regulations.“We are proposing that Deaver Reservoir in Park County and Harrington Reservoir in Big Horn County be included under the Special Winter Ice Fishing Provision. This would allow anglers to use up to six lines during the ice covered period,” said Steve Yekel, the department's Cody region fish supervisor. Yekel said he would like to see a change in the use of bait fish in both reservoirs. “We would like to allow anglers to use live bait fish in both Deaver and Harrington reservoirs provided the bait fish are obtained from a licensed bait fish dealer authorized to sell bait fish for use in these waters or bait fish that were trapped or seined from area 2 live bait fish location B or location C as described in the 2008-2009 fishing regulation booklet,” Yekel said.Proposed changes to water craft regulations include establishing a 100-foot safe zone around diver down flags. Another proposed change would identify an accompanying adult as the “operator” when the person in physical control of a water craft is under age 16. A final proposed change to water craft regulations would require proof of ownership for the purpose of transfer of ownership of a boat.Comments can be submitted on-line at http://gf.state.wy.us/fish/regulations/index.asp or mailed to Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Attn.: Fishing Regulations, 5400 Bishop Blvd., Cheyenne, WY 82006. Public input on the proposals will be accepted through July 9.Comments on water craft, trapping and license issuance regulations will be accepted through July 10 and can be sent to Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Attn: Wildlife Regulations, 3030 Energy Lane, Casper WY 82604. All comments will be presented to the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission prior to its Aug. 6-7 meeting in Cody.
