With the primary election just a few weeks away, local residents have another opportunity to hear from candidates in several races.
On Tuesday evening, the Meet the Candidates event at Washington Park will bring together candidates running for the U.S. Senate and the Wyoming Legislature, including Senate District 18 and House Districts 50, 25 and 24, as well as candidates for the Park County Commission, Powell mayor and Powell City Council.
“A huge benefit for citizens and business owners living in Wyoming is the access we have with our legislators,” said Rebekah Burns, executive director of Powell Economic Partnership/Powell Chamber. She said the organization is bringing the event to Powell “so that it is easy for our community and thought leaders to engage.”
From 3-4 p.m., candidates will have meet and greet tables set up, where voters can talk with candidates about issues that they care about.
A forum follows from 4-5 p.m., and candidates will answer preset questions on a time limit. The forum will help voters get a feel for the candidates’ issues and a better understanding of their platform, Burns said.
A meet and greet with key stakeholders in Powell and Park County follows from 5-6 p.m.
Those who confirmed they would be speaking at Tuesday’s event include:
Current state health orders allow outside events to have up to 250 people in attendance. If you’re planning to attend, you can RSVP by calling the chamber at 307-754-3494 or emailing info@powellchamber.org.
The chamber said it will cap attendance at 250. There will be two check-in points at the Washington Park signs: one on Second Street the other on Cheyenne Street. Organizers will be asking for the names of all participants and attendees for contact tracing.
Pinnacle Bank and the Powell Tribune are serving as co-sponsors for Meet the Candidates.
