3A West's top teams too much for Powell boysThe Powell High School Panthers were unable to keep up with the top two basketball teams from the 3A West conference over the weekend, falling 75-51 at Jackson and 55-28 at Pinedale. The losses leave Powell 2-14 for the season and tied for sixth place in the league standings. Turnovers played a role in Friday's loss against top-ranked Jackson. The Panthers gave away possession 25 times, allowing the Broncs to grab the lead early. A.J. Anderson finished with 15 points for Powell, leading all scorers in the contest. The Panthers also enjoyed one of their better shooting nights of the season, connecting for 44 percent shooting from the floor. Neither of those elements was enough to overcome a balanced Jackson effort that saw four players score in double figures. Jackson improved to 8-0 in the conference following the victory. As strong as the Panthers' played offensively on Friday night, the team struggled on Saturday in Pinedale. Powell managed just 28 points in the contest, shooting 39 percent from the floor, but misfiring on all six of its 3-point attempts. The team also failed to score a point at the foul line, stepping to the charity stripe just three times in the game. Anderson and Chase Partridge each knocked down eight points to share high-scoring honors on the Panthers' side of the scorebook. Partridge also pulled down seven of Powell's 23 rebounds in the contest while Anderson earned credit for four of his school's seven assists for the game.
