Northwest College's new student center is still on track for a late fall completion and soft opening.
As the winter continues to progress in mostly mild fashion, contractors have continued to progress on the two-floor, 35,220-square foot , $23 million facility replacing the nearly 60-year-old DeWitt Student Center.
The building was initially slated for an August finish, but with the chance to add a facility for the outdoor recreation program within the budget, the college agreed to extend the completion date into the fall.
Northwest College President Lisa Watson said the college is expecting a full conversion of the new student center at the end of the fall semester.
And the college can also now move forward on the related project of transferring the facility used last fall for dining into the new soccer fieldhouse after the project was approved last Friday by the Wyoming Community College Commission. The college can now start the architectural and engineering and then construction to convert the building this year.
