The Powell Middle School boys’ track team continued its strong season in Cowley on Saturday, bringing home top results from the Rocky Mountain Invitational.

Leading the way for the eighth grade boys was Breckyn Kobbe, who turned in a strong day winning the 100 meters (12.02), 200 meters (25.03) and the 400 meters (57.9) while also placing second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3 inches.

“Breckyn has been working and doing extra workouts in practice to improve his times,” coach Zach Coombs said. “It has been nice to see his hard work pay off.”

Powell also got individual victories from Garrett Lennon in the pole vault (10-6) and 200 meter hurdles (29.71); Broc Frank in the high jump (5-4) and Kaden Wolff in the shot put (39-6).

The 4x400 relay team of Kason Sherman, Dayton Lawrence, Hayden Jensen and Sawyer Wormald won with a time of 4:30.

On the seventh grade side, the Cubs only had one individual winner on the day, with Keaton Bennett claiming victory in the pole vault (8-0).

“Coach [Dan] Hunter does a great job with the pole vaulters,” Coombs said. “He has established a great 7-12 [grade] program and his methods are always producing great results. Greg Bennett also helps him and they really push kids to their limits.”

The seventh graders saw stronger success in the relays, with the 4x100 relay of Brayden Benander, Braxton Nelson, Tucker Muecke and Dylan DeBoer winning with a time of 54.55; while the 4x400 team of Orin Onstine, Noah Young, Cash Peterson and Carter Clark won with a time of 5:01.

Overall both Cub teams combined for 23 qualifying marks for the Best of the Best meet.

No team scores were kept for the meet.

Powell will again stay close to home this week, heading to Lovell on Saturday for an invitational as the season begins to wind down with the final meets just two weeks away.
