With ice starting to form in the colder weather, staff at Bighorn National Canyon Recreation are beginning to remove docks from the water.
The Horseshoe Bend courtesy dock was pulled out of the water on Halloween in preparation for ice fishing season, while docks at Barry’s Landing and Ok-A-Beh will remain until Bighorn Lake starts to freeze in those locations.
“Prior to ice fishing, deer and pheasant hunters will enjoy the continued road improvements in the Yellowtail Habitat Management Area,” said Christy Fleming, chief of interpretation at the canyon.
As the weather changes, Bighorn Canyon reminds visitors to check road and weather conditions before visiting.
“Visitors are encouraged to dress in layers to prepare for changing weather conditions and to have an emergency kit with extra clothes and food in their vehicles,” Fleming said.
For information on conditions, contact the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center at 307-548-5406.
