Dear editor:
Park County doesn’t need any of the new regulations being proposed by the county commissioners because we already have 300 pages of them. It is more than enough.
The commissioners have expended a lot of money and effort to add regulations. So far, they have paid Clarion $400,000 to write the land use plan; the company hails out of Colorado.
When questioned as to why the contract went out of state the response has been they were the most qualified. If you look at Clarion’s website they say four times in four different places, “They pride themselves on their ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.” That did not happen. There was nothing diverse about the committee members selected to give input to the Land Use Plan. As well, public input that opposed the “agenda” has been either discounted or disregarded completely.
The commissioners are presently paying Logan Simpson $317,980, out of Utah, to write new regulations based on our biased Land Use Plan. The Logan Simpson’s website is all about the environment. They have created a survey with a slanted, woke perspective, again ignoring opposing public input.
It has never been explained why we needed a new Land Use Plan and ultimately new regulations other than a murky idea hinted at that it is all outdated. If it is outdated, then Park County residents have now paid over $700,000 for what could have been done by a lawyer who specializes in land use regulations for a fraction of the cost, and there is no guarantee that this is the end of the spending. The only guarantee is destructive new regulations.
