Dear editor:
I have requested and listened to recorded CDs of recent public land use meetings scheduled midweek and midday. The meeting times seem deliberately arbitrarily and poorly scheduled, making them impossible to attend because of work. As well, a person must go to the county clerk’s office if you want CD copies.
On March 18, during a joint meeting with the county commissioners and the P&Z board, The county planning director stated, “I’m going to apologize if I sound a little catty, but how much are we supposed to cater to the public, who obviously they care so much that they are not here.”
Not only does County Planning Director Joy Hill have a disconnect from the reality of who pays her salary and provides her with a job, but so do the county commissioners as well.
There wasn’t one word of reprimand. We elect them and we pay their salaries and health care. They work for the people and Joy Hill works for them. We pay for her, but she is hired by the commission. She is at-will, a fact I don’t think everyone knows.
My literary comparison would go like this: The tail seems to be wagging the dog, and the dog seems to be forgetting who feeds and cares for it, especially the tail.
