Dear editor:
I listened to the radio broadcast at 7:50 a.m. on Friday, June 6 between County Commissioners Dossie Overfield and Scott Mangold pertaining to the “Stop the Land Grab” flyer mailed to rural Park County addresses. I heard Dossie repeat that “the county is required by the state Legislature to update current regulations,” that this is not a “land grab,” the Land Use Plan was already adopted in 2024, she “hopes that the new regulations will be simpler to understand,” (which will be a challenge since she and Commissioner/P&Z Liaison Kelly Simone don’t understand them now), the website maps (now closed for comment) were not final, and “the public provided comments and the consultants” used them. She denied any increase in fees. She mentioned fencing law compliance with federal changes, “P&Z want direction” on wind farms, adult entertainment will be addressed “in definitions,” and the pro agriculture protest versus development will depend on available water. She said more information will be on Facebook, posted on the website by consultants, or you can call for an update at the first of each meeting of the county commissioners.
I did NOT hear her address the flyer message: “Landowners are NOT being directly contacted for input!” When all that was mailed were the 6,500 DSR/QR coded postcards.
I did not hear her explain the FOUR proposed rural residential zones with less freedom of use described in each one.
I did not hear her explain that our properties will become the new zone and uses when we complete any of the dozen changes that require a permit.
She and the commissioners keep saying they want our input, but only by their methods, and if they align with their opinions.
Canned questions posed by one county commissioner to another county commissioner was barely worth the airtime. It was the heartiest helping of word salad we have been served so far.
