Commissioners, P&Z hope to finalize land use plan wording changes Tuesday

Park County Commissioners set themselves back a few months when they declined to certify a finalized Park County Land Use Plan in early October, but they’re close to clearing a big hurdle as they again move the plan toward completion.

On Tuesday, commissioners and Park County Planning and Zoning members will meet for a work session at 2:45 p.m. in the Cody Library Grizzly Room during the regular county commission meeting.

Commission Chair Dossie Overfield said it would be to finalize the wording they will then send to consultant Clarion  to revise the plan. The revisions stem from concerns from both board and community members regarding the big game and agriculture overlays and the language regarding suggested 20-acre minimum zoning restrictions for large swathes of county land.

Overfield said the two boards came to a consensus on the changes at a work session last week but still have to finalize some details Tuesday. The plan is then to send the wording to Clarion to revise, after which the consultants would send the plan to P&Z to certify following a 30-day publication period. After that certification the commissioners would need to publicize the plan for 45 days before they would then vote to certify.

“We’re still a few months out,” Overfield said.

Overfield said the changes speak to the concerns people had, especially regarding the big game overlay being largely informational and clarifying that the zoning is much more diversified than the worry people had, of 20 acre average minimums all over the rural areas.
