Scott George, a dairyman from Cody, has been appointed as a director for the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
George’s three-year term begins July 1. Also joining the federation as a director is Scott Lake, a University of Wyoming beef cattle extension specialist in Laramie.
The Wyoming Beef Council recently appointed both men to the nonprofit trade association, which works to create new and develop existing international markets for American beef, pork, lamb and veal.
George is no stranger to leadership roles in the beef industry and was previously chairman of the Federation of State Beef Councils, a division of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and moved up the ranks to serve as president of the organization. He’s served several terms on the Wyoming Beef Council and is an active member of the Wyoming Farm Bureau. During his time on the federation, George was an advocate for educating youth about the benefits of beef.
“About 25 percent of our beef supply in this county comes from dairy cattle, so it’s absolutely appropriate that dairymen represent their industry with USMEF in their efforts to grow beef markets worldwide,” George said.
The Wyoming Beef Council is a five-member board of beef producers appointed by the governor to increase beef demand through promotion, education, and research. The council contributes checkoff dollars to U.S. Meat Export Federation programs to grow the demand for beef internationally.
