The Cody Country Art League’s 57th Annual Community Art Show and Sale is happening Wednesday, June 29.
More than 200 members and non-member artists have entered the show with a variety of artwork in all mediums.
From professional artists to amateur, the annual show is a great opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to showcase their talents. More than 230 entries were considered in 2021. The entire main gallery will be rehung to feature the work of participants. This is the only time of the year the gallery space shows work of non-members as well as members.
Show sponsors and grant money from the Wyoming Arts Council help to make this all happen.
Cash prizes and awards are given to those selected by the esteemed judge. This year, Tim Newton, publisher of Western Art and Architecture, is judging the annual show. Newton is widely known in the art community and respected by artists, collectors and art professionals alike.
Newton was chairman of the board and CEO at the legendary Salmagundi Club in New York City for eight years. During his tenure, he helped lead Salmagundi through many years of unprecedented growth. Most notably, Newton proposed and initiated fundraising for the renovation/restoration of Salmagundi’s major gallery, a project that was completed in the spring of 2014.
He was the Founder and Curator of American Masters, an annual art exhibition and sale at Salmagundi. Beginning in 2008 and concluding in 2018, the show was one of America’s premier events for representational art.
An art collector for 31 years, Newton (along with his wife Cathi) has a notable art collection.
Widely acknowledged for his discerning eye, he is a frequent judge of national art shows and competitions.
Newton serves on the board of advisers for the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum, the Oil Painters of America and The Stobart Foundation. He is Chairman of the board of directors of the Couse Foundation in Taos, New Mexico.
In July 2019, he assumed the role of publisher at Western Art and Architecture magazine, one of the premier art publications in America.
Newton and his wife live in Cody.
In addiiton to the 57th Annual Community Art Show on June 29, live music with Richard Muscio, snacks and refreshments will be part of the fun.
Artwork entries are due by Wednesday, June 22 and forms are available online at www.codycountryartleague.com or in the gallery located next to the Cody Visitors Center and Chamber of Commerce at 836 Sheridan Avenue. For more information contact 307-587-3597.
