Cody center to host Kanye West's 'Sunday Service' this weekend

Kanye West will bring his latest “Sunday Service” to Cody this weekend. Featuring West and his 80-person choral group, the service begins at noon Sunday at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s Powwow Garden. It is free and open to the public.

“Kanye West at the Center of the West? … Yeah, you heard that correctly,” the Buffalo Bill center wrote in a Friday afternoon Facebook post.

Just a few weeks ago, the idea of West performing at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West may have seemed like a joke. But after the rapper bought a ranch just south of Cody, locals have seen the celebrity and his wife, Kim Kardashian West, around the community.

When West started his Sunday Services, the gospel concerts were invitation-only affairs at secret locations. “But more recently, Kanye has been making the concerts public,” Esquire reported earlier this month.

Celebrities who have attended recent services include Brad Pitt and Dave Chappelle.

“I think he was doing something really special there,” Pitt told Entertainment Tonight on Monday. “It’s a pure celebration of life and people. It’s really delightful. It really is.”

This weekend’s Sunday Service comes during Rendezvous Royale festivities, always a busy week in Cody that includes the Patrons Ball on Saturday night. The black tie gala has been known to draw big names and influential people, though typically not Hollywood celebrities.
