The general election race for Park County Clerk has drawn far more money than any other local race, say campaign finance reports filed last week.The pre-general election finance reports for incumbent clerk, Kelly Jensen, a Democrat, and Republican challenger Jerri Torczon show Torczon with a significant monetary edge.
Through Oct. 19, Torczon reported raising $7,837, while Jensen had raised $4,691 as of Oct. 24.
The vast majority of Torczon's money, $6,223.72, came from her own pocket. The Park County Republican Party added $1,000, six individual donors contributed $390, GOP campaign events raised another $168 and she received $55.41 worth of materials.
Jensen received $3,490 from 37 couples and individuals, contributed $1,076.22 from her own pocket and was given $125 worth of sign materials.
County Commission
Park County Commissioner Tim French reported contributing $647.20 of his own money to his re-election campaign since the primary, while fellow Republican candidates Loren Grosskopf and Joe Tilden raised $550 and $1,068, respectively.
Tilden contributed $568.40 of his own money and received a $500 contribution since Aug. 17, while Grosskopf reported raising $500 from his own pocket and a $50 contribution.
Libertarian candidate Penny Gail reported receiving $150 from two individuals, while Democratic contender Faith Wicks reported no contributions.
Three seats on the five-member board are up for election among the five candidates.
Other county races
The county's unopposed Republican candidates in the general election — Clerk of Court Joyce Boyer, assessor candidate Pat Meyer, treasurer candidate Barb Poley, Coroner Tim Power, County Attorney Bryan Skoric and Sheriff Scott Steward — reported receiving no money since the primary.
College board
Rick LaPlante, a challenger for a seat on the Northwest College board of trustees, rose heads and tails above his opponents financially. LaPlante reported raising $1,270.05 — $217.95 of his own money and $1,042.20 from 21 individual donors. The majority of those donors, the reports says, were college professors and instructors. Many of those contributors have expressed concern with the current NWC administration.
Incumbent NWC trustee Carolyn Danko reported receiving no money in the reporting time frame, but listed a $42.40 expenditure.
Current trustee Jim Vogt and challenger Kim Dillivan did not file reports.
John Housel, an NWC trustee from Cody who is running unopposed, listed no receipts.
Powell City Council
In the race to replace Ward 3 City Councilman Rex Sanders, who lost in a three-way primary, Myron Heny reported contributing $440.10 of his own funds since winning the primary. Tim Sapp, Heny's opponent in the general election, contributed $81.20 of his own money since finishing as the primary runner-up.
Incumbent city councilman John Wetzel and challenger Mark Senn, who are competing for a Ward 2 seat, reported no receipts, as did unchallenged incumbent Ward 1 Councilman Steve Scott.
State Legislature
Among Park County's unopposed GOP state legislators, Pat Childers, R-Cody, reported receiving $1,175 since the primary, Elaine Harvey, R-Lovell, reported receiving $900, and Dave Bonner, R-Powell, reported receiving $600. State Sen. Ray Peterson, R-Cowley, did not file a report.
In House District 24, which represents Cody, Republican candidate Sam Krone reported raising $1,450 since the primary, while his Libertarian opponent, Vernel Gail, reported no receipts.
Powell school board
The four unopposed candidates for the Powell school board — incumbents Greg Borcher, Dee Heny and Patty Wurzel and newcomer Trace Paul — reported no contributions.
