Christmas celebrated with special services

To celebrate Christmas, congregations around Powell will gather on Tuesday for special Christmas Eve services. A few churches also will host special Christmas Day celebrations.

“It will be a warm time to be encouraged as we marvel again at God’s kindness to us in sending his son to be and do all that we could not so he could be our eternal hope,” said Doug Siggins, Trinity Bible Church pastor.

The following local churches reported their Christmas services to the Tribune:

  • Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service from 6-7 p.m. The congregation will sing Christmas songs, and there will be a short message about Christ’s birth.  
  • Garland Community Church of God will host its Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m.
  • Grace Point’s Christmas Eve candlelight service starts at 6 p.m.
  • Hope Lutheran Church’s Christmas Eve candlelight service with Holy Communion begins at 7 p.m.
  • Faith Community Church will host two Christmas Eve communion services. The first begins at 4 p.m. and the second follows at 5:15 p.m.
  • First Southern Baptist Church will have a Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary.
  • First United Methodist Church in Powell will host a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Pastor Melinda Penry also will lead a 5 p.m. service at Lovell United Methodist.
  • Immanuel Lutheran Church will have a candlelight Christmas Eve service beginning at 7 p.m. On Christmas Day, the church will host a service at 9 a.m.
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will have a Christmas service on Sunday Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. for both Powell first and third wards at the Avenue E building. There will not be a Christmas Eve service.
  • Living Hope Community Church will host a candlelight Christmas Eve service from 6-7 p.m.
  • New Life Church’s Christmas Eve candlelight service with communion begins at 5:30 p.m.
  • St. Barbara’s Catholic Church will have Mass on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m, and 9 p.m. Christmas Day Mass begins at 9 a.m. and then a Latin Mass follows at noon.
  • St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Christmas Eve service is at 6 p.m. with music and Holy Communion.
  • Trinity Bible Church is having a Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m.
  • Union Presbyterian Church will host a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m.
  • Powell Church of Christ will gather for a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.
