(June 8, 1972 - Aug. 13, 2002) Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Park County Fairgrounds multipurpose building for Chancey Deeann Ulmer, 30, who died early Thursday, Aug. 8 in a highway rollover south of Powell. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, with a luncheon following at the fairgrounds. She was born June 8, 1972, in Billings, Mont., and raised in Powell. A champion diver for the Powell High School swim team, she was a member of the PHS Class of 1990. She still holds PHS diving records, having lettered all four years in diving. She placed sixth in the state as a freshman, second in the state as a sophomore, was undefeated and won a state championship in diving as a junior and missed being state champion diver again in her senior year by only four points. Her family is proud that she was a major help in furthering the diving program at PHS, teaching others to dive. She was offered several diving scholarships to attend college, but chose not to accept. She continued to dive for pleasure, diving off anything with height, including cliffs. She was also a member of the high school choir and loved singing. She had a great love for animals and people, and her family said she always had time for both: "Her heart and smile touched many people's lives, including young children who were attracted to her gentle heart. Her love and concern for others were expressed also in her passing, as she made it clear that she wanted to be an organ donor, which she was."Her hobbies included painting crafts; dried floral arrangements; rock, fossil and arrowhead hunting and writing poetry. She leaves behind her mother, Norma Jean Herd, and significant other Darryl Carmon of Powell; her sister, Alexa Jean Herd of Powell; father and step-mother, John and Myrna Ulmer and their son, Lee Nicholson, of Powell; grandmothers Dee Shipman of Powell and Ann Ulmer of Cody; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves behind her companion of nine years, J.D. Peters, and his family of Billings.A memorial fund has been established at First National Bank & Trust in Powell.
