Event part of lake celebration daysA total of 60 teams are expected to descend upon Big Horn Lake on Saturday, June 20, as part of the second-annual Big Horn Catfish Tournament Challenge. The event, which is the fourth of 10 tournaments being held this summer on the Montana Cathunter/Catfishers Tour, will be part of the greater Big Horn Lake Celebration weekend.“This tournament will really be a good addition to our Big Horn Lake celebration, said Bob Croft, who is helping to organize the event. “Getting it on the Montana tour calendar should help attract people to the area. The word I have heard is that they've filled their 60-team fields at the first three events this season and they should here too.”Beginning at 8 a.m., two-person teams will depart the Kane boat ramp. Ranging from the south end of the Yellowtail Wildlife Management Area to the south narrows at day board marker 64, tournament teams will attempt to catch up to six catfish and return to the weigh-in station between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. to register their catch. The eight teams with the highest weigh-in, regardless of whether they registered their full six-fish limit, will be eligible for prize money at the end of the day. Top prize, based on a 60-team field, will be $500. A $100 prize for the biggest whiskers will also be given. Entry information and rules for the tournament can be found online at www.bighorn.com. Entries will be accepted up until the 7 a.m. mandatory meeting on the day of the tournament or until the tournament fills its 60-team field. The catfish tournament is just one segment of the Big Horn Lake Celebration weekend. The day will also feature free boat rides on Bighorn Canyon, swimming, food and fun at Horseshoe Bend. Park entrance fees have been waived for the weekend.
