Bret Savage and his bands return to perform at Park County Fair

Go back in time with Bret Savage and his bands — the Rewinders and the Cowley Boys. They will be returning this year to perform classic rock and country music at the Park County Fair.

Bret Savage

Travel through time at the Park County Fair with Savage as he plays a range of music through the ages — everything from classic country to classic rock.

“My performance is basically going to be a 100 year journey through time, it’ll be a musical time machine.” Savage said. “Each show will be a chunk of time. My shows won’t repeat … They will pretty much be different every show. You shouldn’t hear any song twice, each show will be unique.”

Savage has been performing on his own for the last 10 years. He enjoys having a playlist that has a lot of variety and being able to play through songs from different eras. But his favorite thing about performing music for an audience is putting smiles on the faces of those who are listening

“I love seeing the light in people’s eyes brighten up when they hear songs that they know and enjoy. It’s fun to see people enjoy the magic of music,” he said.

You can catch Savage’s musical journey on the Pepsi Free Stage on Wednesday at 1 p.m., Thursday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 7  p.m.

The Rewinders

Put on your best dancing shoes and get ready for some classic country and rock covers from the Rewinders.

“Rewinders will be kicking through a lot of different songs from across the decade,” said Savage, who is the lead guitar player for Rewinders. “There’s going to be a lot of country and classic rock, just a lot of good danceable music.”

The band started with Savage and his daughter when she was 13 years old, but when she went to college Savage’s son took her place when he was 14 years old until he moved away. The Rewinders have been together for about 19 years now, and they feature Wade Brost on rhythm guitar, Mike Holzer on bass guitar and Chris Allen on drums.

The Rewinders will be performing on the Pepsi Free Stage on Friday at 8 and 9 p.m.

The Cowley Boys

The Cowley Boys started from a couple of friends getting together for some jam sessions, but soon evolved into a classic rock band.

“It kind of started from just jamming out on the plains during hunting trips and it just expanded out and got more and more involved until it turned into a band,” Savage explained.

The Cowley Boys play both classic rock and country music, but they have more of a focus on classic and Southern rock. The Cowley Boys features Savage on bass guitar, Schuyler Hinckley on drums, Dave Banks rhythm guitar and his son Kasen Banks on lead guitar. Kasen is the youngest member of the band at age 16, but Savage notes that he is very talented on the guitar.

“The Cowley Boys will be a little more classic rock, a little more edgy because the lead guitarist, Kasen, just lights up the guitar. He is a premium lead guitar player,” Savage said. “[Kasen] has been the lead guitar player for the last three years and he’s been really really good.”

The Cowley Boys will be performing on the Pepsi Free Stage on Saturday at 8 and 9 p.m.
