‘This is a relief. I'm excited to be playing in Texas ... You're on everyone's radar down there.'Colter Bostick, a member of the Class A state-champion Powell Pioneers' roster last summer, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next year for Midland College in Texas. The NJCAA-affiliated two-year school fell one game shy of making its second regional tournament appearance in the past four years last spring. The highly-touted program boasts 13 alumni in various major league organizations and is also in the midst of a major stadium construction project. “This is a relief,” Bostick said of his signing. “I'm excited to be playing in Texas because you're so close to so many strong (four-year) programs in Texas and Arizona. You're on everyone's radar down there.”Bostick played a major role in the Pioneers' success last summer, playing largely as a first baseman and pitcher. Bostick finished the summer batting .392 with three home runs and 53 RBIs for the Pioneers, scoring 50 runs in the process. Bostick finished the summer with a .622 slugging percentage as Powell placed third at the Northwest Region tournament in Utah. On the hill, he finished the summer with a 6-4 overall pitching record. He plans to be back in uniform to help the Pioneers defend their Class A title this summer. “The plan is to play for as long as I can here, then I'll go down there and begin classes and play in fall ball to get ready for the competitive season that starts in early February,” said Bostick. Bostick becomes the fifth member of the 2009 Pioneers roster to sign a collegiate letter of intent to play baseball.
