Craig made a quick takedown to start the match, but fell behind after letting Bradshaw go and giving up a takedown. He recovered with an escape and takedown of his own to lead 5-3 after the first round, and 32 seconds into the second period, ended the match with a pin.

Zach Thiel followed Craig into the win column with a major decision over Thermop's Colter Brown. Thiel led 2-0 after one period and 5-0 after two. In the third period, he added another takedown, then let his opponent go and scored another with an effective counter to Brown's single-leg shot to finish the match with a 9-1 win.

Olie Olson then took the mat to dominate Bobcat Cody Shinost, 7-1 in the first period, and ending it in the second round with a pin in 3:16.

In the next bout, Colt Nix scored the Panther's quickest pin of the night, using a fireman's carry to take down and pin Sharena Hessenthaler in 24 seconds.

Following a Thermopolis forfeit to Randy Andrews, Auston Carter added six more points to the team score with a third-period pin. Carter built a 16-4 lead before giving up a reverse in the third round, but quickly regained the advantage and scored the pin in 4:31.

The Bobcats forfeited the next bout to Jim Seckman and Cole Kary wasted no time in the next bout, taking Chris Ryan to the mat and pinning him in 52 seconds.

The Bobcats scored their first points of the match at 171. Panther Danny Harris gave up a takedown to Thermop's Dylan Balstad, but Balstad was unable to take advantage and the first period ended with Harris down 2-0. On the opening whistle for the second period, though, Harris was unable to block Balstad's reverse and he slipped into a pinning combination and was pinned at 2:20.

The Panthers' third quick pin of the evening followed, though, as Monte Nickles made a fast takedown and ended his match over Bobcat Miles Galovich in 42 seconds.

Joe Lujan won the next bout by forfeit, and Trevor Griffeth followed with another quick pin, ending his match with Kory Loos of Thermopolis in just more than one minute.

The Panthers' last points came with a forfeit to Dylan Rood before Luke Wozney came out to meet Bobcat Josh Materi, a state finalist in Class 2A last year in the most competitive match of the meet. Wozney took a 2-1 lead after one period. He started the second period in the down position, and although he came close to a reversal at one point and nearly escaped at another, he was unable to build his lead. In the third round, he controlled Materi's attempts to score until the final 30 seconds, when Materi was able to score a reverse and a nearfall for a 6-2 win.

The Panthers will head back into tournament action this weekend when they travel to Miles City for the Cowboy invitational. Thirty teams from Montana and surrounding states are expected to compete in the traditionally tough tournament, including Wyoming 4A defending champion Gillette and top Montana teams from Billings Skyview and Belgrade.

“It will be a tough tournament,” said Coach Nate Urbach.

The Miles City tournament opens Friday and continues through Saturday.
