Fishing season has arrived and if you are interested in learning the basics of fly fishing, East Yellowstone Trout Unlimited, Wyoming Outdoorsmen and North Fork Anglers are hosting a Fly Fishing Fair. The event will consist of a series of stations where you can learn how to tie a fly, master basic knots, string up a rod, read the water, identify aquatic insects and learn how to cast a fly rod. In addition, there will be information about the annual fall fish rescue program and conservation projects across the basin.
Participants can also sign up for the WY HUNT FISH-First Fish on a Fly mentoring program that teaches youth and adults the basic skills and techniques fly anglers use to fish Western trout.
The fair will be held at the Wyoming Game and Fish conference room in Cody on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All materials, rods and reels will be provided. Feel free to bring your own rod if you would like help setting it up or learning to cast. There is no charge for the event, and you could win a door prize — an Orvis Fly Fishing Starter kit. In honor of Mother’s Day, all women who attend will receive a free membership to East Yellowstone Trout Unlimited.
