Dear editor:
I normally would not “argue” with someone for expressing their religious views. But the recent article on the pastor’s opinions got to me.
He obviously doesn’t agree with science on climate change or other issues. That is also his right and opinion.
But as they say, science doesn’t care if you believe in it or not.
As a Christian who believes in God and science, I have a problem with his statements. Yes you really can be religious and still believe in science, that racism is real, that gender is not just determined by your genitals but also your brain and emotions.
The Bible does tell us to be good stewards of the earth/God’s creation. Not sure why some wouldn’t also believe there would be consequences (change in climate) if we didn’t. Whether you want to think that is a natural consequence or something that God would bring about, it is happening.
We are told over and over to love each other, right after being instructed to love God. When we demean others because of their race we are certainly being racist. Along with treating them differently because of their nationality, religion or who they love. By the way, Jesus never condemns or even mentions homosexuality.
The author of the article also obviously interprets the Bible differently than I do. But that does not mean that I or a multitude of others are not following Jesus. Also you can know right from wrong, be a kind decent person and actually be more like Jesus than some religious folks are.
If we want to be disciples and not like the Pharisees we need to show God’s love and follow him.
I recently saw a quote that said “Be the reason people love Jesus not hate Christians.”
