One of the 11 candidates who had filed to run for school board has dropped out.
Aida Polson, who had registered as a candidate for the Park County School District 1 Board of Trustees, has officially withdrawn from the race as of Oct. 10.
“Due to family medical reasons I have to withdraw from running for the school board,” Polson said.
A press release from the Park County Elections Office states ballots have already been created and some voting has occurred which means Polson’s name is on the ballot.
“The vote she receives will be tallied just like the other folks running for the PCSD1 board, but she is no longer a candidate for the office,” said CJ Baker with Park County Elections.
According to the elections office almost 300 early or absentee votes had been cast within the district with another 700 ballots already sent to voters.
Baker said early voters will be verbally notified that Polson is no longer running for election, absentee voters will receive slips with their ballots and signs will be posted at polling places.
Already 917 votes have been cast, of these votes 242 are early votes and 673 votes are absentees ballots. There have been 1,900 absentee ballots issued that have yet to be returned by voters, according to the elections office.
