There are times when the two words — Thank You — seem insufficient to convey our feelings to all those who have contributed to the Backpack Blessings of Powell program.
The volunteers filled approximately 144 bags each school week for students at the three elementary schools in Powell. Our goal to cover the cost of food for this school year was approximately $41,000.
Our “Fill a Pie Pan” fundraiser for this 2022-2023 school year surpassed last year’s donations. The generosity of individuals, businesses and churches throughout the year is always overwhelming. The board applied for and received many grants which contributed to the success of reaching the goal of $41,000.
The buying committee of the Backpack Blessings board of directors faced the rising cost of food when purchasing food (not unlike everyone else). By searching weekly for the best buys every donated dollar was thoughtfully spent to provide the needed food items, keeping the cost per bag/student at about $8.50. Remember that provides six meals, two snacks and drinks per weekend per child.
Looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year, we will continue to fundraise as we anticipate the number of students needing food will rise as will the cost of food.
So, we sincerely hope that the words “thank you” will convey how sincerely grateful this board of directors and our volunteers are for the donations and grants we receive. Your dollars are a true gift to help serve those students who are food challenged.
