The year began on a grim note when a Cody duck hunter and his son came upon a headless body in Badger Basin on Jan. 9.
Law enforcement — led by the Park County Sheriff’s Office — later concluded the man had been shot to death and mutilated a couple days prior to the body’s discovery.
In mid-May, the sheriff’s office announced it had identified the victim as 30-year-old Juan Antonio Guerra-Torres, a Mexican national who split his time between California and Clark.
In August, Sheriff Scott Steward said authorities had identified a couple “strong persons of interest” in connection with the case: Guerra-Torres’ significant other and an unknown person who goes by the nickname “Crocodile” or “Don Cheto.”
