Sharon Lynn DiPirro passed away from medical complications in the early hours of Oct. 10, 2023. She was born Jan. 22, 1937, to Charlotte A. and Hubert N. Cramer.
Hubert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, then purchased a gas station in Fort Washakie, Wyoming where Sharon attended elementary school. She attended high school in Lander, Wyoming. Then she went off to college where Sharon attended the University of Wyoming. She began her studies in pharmacy, but found herself married and expecting her first child, so she changed her area of studies to education as being a teacher better fit her hectic schedule. Teaching suited her very well and she so enjoyed her many students over the years — she never looked back.
She taught high school English in Torrington, Wyoming, for several years before accepting a position in 1966 with Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming in their business college.
She went back to school to receive her master’s and then her doctorate degrees. She was very active on school committees, as well as community and church organizations. She taught there for 27 years before enjoying retirement.
She loved to travel and took several trips to Europe and one memorable trip to South Korea. She and her husband, Don, were avid square dancers and traveled to every convention they could find, including one in Scotland. Sharon also had a passion for animals, and she and Don both were very active with the Powell Humane Society. She spent the last year of her life in Yuma, Arizona, living near her oldest son.
Sharon is survived by her son Lynn Funkhouser of Yuma, his six children and six grandchildren, daughter Suzy Cox of Helena, Montana, her three sons and four grandchildren, and Ron Funkhouser (Denise) of Roggen, Colorado, his two children and five grandchildren.
