Cody historian and Trail Town founder Bob Edgar, 73, died peacefully Friday evening April 20 at the Powell Valley Care Center, after a long illness.

Robert Wilbur Edgar was born July 27, 1939 near Polecat Bench to Paul G. and Marjorie (Downer) Edgar and was raised in Oregon Basin and Cody.

He was a lifelong resident of the Cody-Meeteetse area. Bob was a genuine “Old West” personage who lived the western life and left a monumental legacy to it.

Best remembered for creating the Trail Town frontier museum from authentic pre-1900 buildings and memorabilia, Bob Edgar was also acclaimed for his sharpshooting demonstrations and firearms lore and for being an archaeologist, artist, historical researcher, author, hunter and trapper.

Public services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at Trail Town in Cody. Cremation has occurred.

A more complete obituary and remembrance of Bob Edgar’s life will follow at a later date.
