Lyle Ricky Aagard was born Aug. 11, 1953 and died Aug. 28, 2011 after a brief, but valiant battle against cancer.

Rick was raised on the family farm in Burlington, where he helped with the tractor work and cared for the sheep and cattle. He attended school and graduated from Burlington High School in 1971. Rick was very active in athletics and was chosen to be a part of the All State Football Team his senior year. He also served as FFA chapter president.

After high school, Rick attended Northwest College in Powell. He received his Associate of Arts degree in the fine arts in 1973. After junior college, Rick was called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two years in the Missouri Independence Mission. Rick taught many people, some of whom are still family friends today. After completing his mission, Rick attended BYU in Provo, Utah.

He married Julie Hopkin on March 16, 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple. Rick worked for one year on the family farm and then returned to BYU. While in Utah, Rick purchased a furniture restoration business and began restoring antiques.

In 1983 Rick and Julie moved their family to Tygee Valley, Idaho, where they managed the Tygee Ranch. After 13 years on the ranch, they moved into Auburn and took up residency in their restored barn. Rick continued with his furniture restoration and added sign making to his business. He enjoyed designing and building signs. Many are still seen throughout the valley.

Rick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Julie; son, Adam Dane of Idaho Falls; daughter and son-in-law Allyson and Brandon Major of West Jordan, Utah; and daughter, Amy Lynn of Rexburg, Idaho. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robin and Alice Aagard, who are currently serving a mission in Ukraine; and his sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Jay Wilkinson of Greybull.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Robert; his parents, Robert Lynn and Bernice LaRea Moon Aagard; sisters, Susan Bullinger and Faye Ella Regner.
