Travis Calkin, 18, of Cody, died Aug. 1, 2011 in a fatal vehicle accident in Thermopolis.
He was born Dec. 23, 1992 in Middletown, N.Y., to Patrick and Leah Calkin.
He was an outgoing and caring person who loved his family and friends. He graduated from Cody High School in 2011.
Travis loved football and was always there to encourage and support his fellow teammates. A defense lineman, he earned all-state and all-conference honors and played in the Shrine Ball. He loved camping with his friends on Carter Mountain.
Travis is survived by his parents Patrick and Leah Calkin of Cody, his sister Jessika (Shane) Vertz, of Cody, his brother Patrick Calkin Jr., of Cody; his maternal grandparents Harrison and Mary Niemann of N.Y.; paternal grandparents Robert and Teddy Calkin of Cody; uncle Ryan and aunt Maggie Calkin from New York, uncle Frank and aunt Sue Niemann from New York, and cousins from New York.
He was preceded in death by his biological grandmother Betty Calkin and uncle Michael Calkin.
Funeral services will be at Ballard Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Fellowship will then follow the burial at Stock Auditorium. The Travis Calkin Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at Big Horn Federal Bank, 1701 Stampede Avenue, Cody, WY, 82414.
