Frank Hindle Cowley died at his home, in Worland, on April 7, 2011, surrounded by loved ones. He was 90.
Frank was born on Feb. 23, 1921, on the family home on the Bittercreek near Penrose. He was the youngest of six children born to James Floyd and Sarah Ellen (Hindle) Cowley.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended church in Penrose until they combined with Byron. He received his education in Byron, graduating in 1941 with honors. He also received a four-year scholarship to the University of Wyoming plus an agriculture scholarship. He began classes in the fall, but his education was cut short with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Being the only child left at home, he went back to help on the family farm. By the time the war ended, he had lost interest in school. After his mother’s passing, his father retired from farming.
Frank started working various jobs; carpentry work interested him the most. He loved building things.
In 1950 he met and married the love of his life, Myra Allphin. Soon after their marriage, they served a two-year mission to the southern states. Following their return, they started their family, to which five children were born.
Frank worked at the Sugar Factory in Lovell during campaign. He spent 38 years there as an assistant chemist in the lab, retiring in 1991 to care for his ailing wife. They moved to Worland in 1994 to be closer to their daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Myra, one sister, Beatrice Davis; brothers: Roland, Norman, Irvin and Evan.
Frank is survived by his children: Nancy Ellsworth of Worland; Kevin Cowley of Buffalo, Mary Lou Whitehead of Spanish Fork, Utah, Brian Cowley of Casper and Tamara Jolley of Worland; 16 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at the Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Byron, with Bishop Don Hatch officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, April 15 from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at the Penrose Cemetery.
