Donald Euvaugh Ferebee, 92, of Cody, died Sept. 26 at the Powell Valley Care Center, within months of the love of his life, Velma.
Don was born July 11, 1917 at Nelson, Neb. to Ora Van and Ivy May (Clements) Ferebee. At age 16, Don relocated with his family to Imperial, Neb.
On March 31, 1940, Don married to Velma Leona Clark in Grant, Neb. After their marriage, Don and Velma farmed in Champion, Neb. Two children were born to this union, Terry and Sharon. In 1950, Don entered the auto mechanic profession in Imperial. In 1958, he moved his family to Cody where he was employed by several employers in the auto repair industry.
After his retirement, Don volunteered for 15 years with the Cody Senior Center. He delivered food for their Meals on Wheels program, among other things. Don also continued his auto mechanic work part-time until his health forced him to quit.
A very social man, he enjoyed going to the Cody nursing home with his wife, Velma, where he played his guitar with “The Travelers” for many years. He lived in Cody until January 2008, when he joined Velma in the Powell Valley Care Center.
Don was a loving spirit who graciously, with dignity and confidence, negotiated the hurdles of life. He lived in accordance with his belief that life is perfect as it is and that it is our challenge and responsibility to contend with whatever comes one’s way. He loved his Lord and his church.
Don leaves a legacy of wisdom, love, care of family, great work ethic and pride in self, family and professional endeavors. These attributes will be felt through many generations of his family.
Don is survived by his son Terrance Ferebee (Lois) of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter Sharon Utter of Powell; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister Donnabeth Ferrell of Imperial; brother Bud (Mary Lou) of Kearney, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his love of 69 years, Velma; his parents; a brother, Frank; and two sons-in-law.
Memorial services will be at the Cody Bible Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12.
