F. Hugh Arnett, 81, died Wednesday, Sept. 14 at his home in Cody.
He was born July 31, 1924, in Shell to Warren and Mary (Ruddy) Arnett. His early schooling was in Shell, and then he attended and graduated from Greybull High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was discharged a Pharmacist Mate 1st Class on Dec. 22, 1945.
Following his discharge he lived for a time in Oakdale, Calif., before returning to Wyoming. He worked in the construction industry, and in 1970, he began working for West Park Hospital and became director of maintenance and engineering. During this time he oversaw the building of the Long Term Care Center. He retired in 1985.
He later assisted in maintenance at Glacier View Hospital in Kalispell, Mont. He was dedicated to the Yellowstone Boys Ranch. He enjoyed hunting, ranching and spending time with his family. He was an avid book reader.
Survivors include his wife Joan of the family home; children Crystal Arnett of Denver and Col. Michael Hamilton (retired) and wife Becky of Madison, Ala.; two grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phillip.
Cremation has taken place, and in accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Should friends desire, memorials to Yellowstone Boys Ranch would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements were handled by Ballard Funeral Home.
